A breakdown is stressful enough — with children or a pet in the car, it’s a whole different level of worry. Here’s how to keep everyone safe and get moving again quickly.
Get everyone to safety first
If you’re on a motorway or fast road, get out of the car on the left-hand side, away from traffic, and wait behind the barrier — children and adults alike. Keep a firm hold of little hands. Where it’s safe to do so, bring pets out on a lead or in a carrier rather than leaving them in a car near live traffic.
Tell us when you call
When you phone, say you have children or a pet with you. It helps us understand the situation and get to you as a priority. You should never be left stranded and vulnerable for long.
While you wait
Stay together, keep warm, keep back from the road, and keep an eye out for our driver. We’ll get you all recovered and somewhere safe as fast as we can.
