- If you can still move, come off at the next exit or into an emergency refuge area (the orange bays) and stop there.
- On a smart-motorway stretch with no hard shoulder, get as far to the left as possible, hazards on, and leave by the left-hand door to stand behind the barrier if it’s safe.
- If you’re stuck in a live lane and can’t get clear, keep your seatbelt on, hazards on, and dial 999 — then call us.
