Prefer to talk? Call 07301 118118
Tell K9 the Copart lot number and whether the car is a runner, and we book a winch-equipped flatbed from our network so it is lifted rather than dragged onto the transporter and brought straight to your address.
Getting a Cat S or Cat N Car Home From Copart
Most vehicles sold through Copart are salvage — written off by an insurer and carrying a Cat S or Cat N marker, and a good number will not start or steer. Ordinary recovery is not built for that, and turning up with a rope and a mate’s car is not a safe way to move one. K9 books a winch-equipped flatbed so the car is loaded properly whether it runs or not.
We are not affiliated with Copart; we simply collect from their sites in the same way we collect from anywhere else in the UK.

Why a Winch Matters More Than the Mileage
A non-runner has to be pulled or lifted onto the transporter rather than driven on under its own power. Our network includes drivers with winch-equipped flatbeds specifically for this, so a seized engine, a flat battery, or crash damage to the steering does not stop the car being loaded safely.
Cat S and Cat N, in Plain Terms
A Cat S vehicle has structural damage and should never be put back on the road without a proper structural repair; a Cat N has non-structural damage and can sometimes be repaired to drive again. Neither changes how we book your transport, but it is worth knowing which one you have bought before you plan what happens after it arrives.
- Cat S: structural damage recorded against the vehicle
- Cat N: non-structural damage, more commonly repairable
- Both categories can be moved on an open or enclosed transporter
What Counts as a Runner at a Salvage Sale
Copart listings usually note whether a lot starts and drives, but a car that started at the depot when it was catalogued does not always start weeks later at the point of collection, particularly after sitting outside through poor weather. If you are at all unsure, tell K9 the car may not start rather than assuming it will, since booking a winch-equipped flatbed from the outset avoids a second trip if the standard transporter cannot load it.
Beating the Storage Clock
Copart, like most salvage sites, starts charging storage once your collection window closes. Book K9 as soon as your payment clears rather than waiting until the last day, since a winch-capable driver needs to be sourced and scheduled, and that takes a little longer than booking a straightforward runner. Salvage-specific transporters are a smaller pool than standard car carriers, so building in a day or two between confirming payment and the end of your window gives us a better chance of matching the right vehicle.
Where the Car Goes Next
Delivery does not have to be your home. Many Copart buyers send the car straight to a repairer, a bodyshop, or a breaker’s yard, and we can deliver to any of those addresses.
- Home address, if you are doing the repair yourself
- A bodyshop or repairer’s workshop
- A breaker’s yard, if the car is being parted out

Copart Salvage Collection Questions
Will a low loader work if my Copart car won’t start?
A flatbed with a winch is the right choice for a non-runner, since it can be pulled on rather than driven, which an ordinary low loader is not set up for. Tell us the car does not start when you book and we will match the right transporter.
What is a Cat S or Cat N car and does it affect transport?
Cat S means structural damage, Cat N means non-structural damage. Neither category changes how we book the job, but a Cat S or a badly damaged Cat N is more likely to need a winch-equipped flatbed rather than standard transport.
How quickly does Copart start charging storage?
Collection windows and storage charges are set by Copart and vary by sale, so check your own lot terms; booking K9 as soon as payment clears gives the best chance of collecting before any charge applies.
