Road by road, what to expect
A102 Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach
If you have stopped between Sun in the Sands and the tunnel, put the hazards on, get behind the barrier if you can reach one safely and tell us which lane and which direction. We come in on the A102 behind you rather than through the tunnel, because a truck in the tunnel queue helps nobody. Inside the tunnel itself Transport for London’s own crews move you to the portal first; we collect from there. Both the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels are now tolled, and we factor that into the route for the onward journey.
A206 Woolwich Road and Charlton
Between the Angerstein roundabout and Charlton Church Lane the Woolwich Road serves the Bugsby’s Way retail parks, The Valley on match days and a long strip of trade units. Breakdowns here are mostly vans and taxis; see our dedicated Greenwich van recovery page for what we carry. Retail park car parks give us room to work, the Woolwich Road itself does not, so we pick the spot with you on the phone.
A2 Shooters Hill
The hill catches overheating cars going up and brake problems coming down, particularly on the Blackheath side. Shooters Hill Road is wide enough to load safely; the Sun in the Sands roundabout at the bottom is not, and if that is where you have stopped we ask you to stay well back while the driver positions the truck.
Greenwich town centre
Greenwich Church Street, Nelson Road and College Approach form a one-way loop that is choked with coaches and pedestrians from mid-morning. Our trucks go round once, use Romney Road or the market service side to load, and are gone. On weekend market days we may ask you to walk to the vehicle so the driver can work while you are on your way.
North Greenwich and the O2
Peninsula Square and Millennium Way are managed by event staff on show nights, and the car parks empty in a rush afterwards, which is when flat batteries and stalled EVs surface. Electric cars are loaded on a flatbed only, never towed. We know which barriers the venue lifts for recovery vehicles.

Greenwich and Blackwall Tunnel questions
My car stopped inside the Blackwall Tunnel. Do I call you or TfL?
The tunnel is monitored and TfL’s recovery crew will move you out to the portal; that is their role and it happens quickly. Call us at the same time. By the time you are at the portal our truck is close, and we take it from there to wherever you need without a second wait.
There is a show on at the O2 and I have broken down in the car park. Will you get in?
Yes. The event team lifts barriers for recovery vehicles and we have done this enough times to know which entrance to use. Tell us the car park and level; the timing is easiest if we arrive before the show ends and the exit queues start.
Can you load a car in Greenwich town centre on a Sunday when the market is on?
We can, but not on Greenwich Church Street itself. The driver uses Romney Road or a side street off the loop and either rolls the car round to it or winches from the nearest point where the truck can stand legally. We tell you the plan on the phone so nothing is a surprise.
