Surrey Vehicle Recovery: From the M25 to the Hills
Surrey packs motorway junctions, an airport boundary and some of the steepest hills in south-east England into a relatively small county, which makes for a wide spread of breakdown calls. K9 Recovery covers all of it, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, sending the nearest available driver from our nationwide network of 3,000 vetted operators.
Whatever needs recovering — a car, van, 4×4, EV, motorcycle, caravan, motorhome, taxi or a vehicle that will not start — it goes on a flatbed, never towed on its own wheels. No membership, no call-centre queue, and a price agreed before we move.

Where Surrey’s Traffic Gets Difficult
The M25 arc and its neighbours
Surrey carries the M25 between junctions 8 and 13, one of the most heavily used stretches of the entire orbital, feeding directly into the M23 toward Gatwick and the M3 toward Basingstoke and the south-west. A breakdown anywhere on this arc, particularly near the Gatwick spur, tends to happen in slow-moving traffic rather than free-flowing lanes, which changes how carefully you need to get clear of the carriageway. See our M25 breakdown recovery guide for more on the wider network.
A-roads over the hills
The A3 cuts through the Surrey Hills toward Guildford and Portsmouth, while the A24, A25 and A31 wind through the North Downs past Box Hill, a stretch popular with cyclists and motorcyclists and notorious for sharp bends and sudden gradient changes. A breakdown on the hill sections here often means a vehicle stuck at an awkward angle, which our drivers are equipped to deal with safely.
Gatwick Airport Traffic
Although Gatwick itself sits just over the county boundary in Sussex, the roads that serve it — the M23 spur, the A23 and the approach lanes around Redhill and Horley — carry a huge volume of taxi, hire car and drop-off traffic that spills firmly into Surrey. Breakdowns here often involve vehicles that have been sitting in long-stay parking for a week or more, and a flat battery on return from holiday is one of our most common call-outs in this part of the county.
Surrey Hills and Rural Roads
Large parts of Surrey are designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the lanes that serve villages around the Hills are narrow, tree-lined and prone to standing water after rain. It is also popular 4×4 and off-road country, and our 4×4 recovery service is built for exactly that kind of vehicle and terrain.
Fog is a regular hazard on the higher sections of the North Downs in autumn and winter, dropping visibility fast enough to catch out drivers who are not expecting it, particularly around Box Hill and the ridge roads above Guildford, where a stopped vehicle can be genuinely difficult to see until the last moment. The Hills are also popular with touring cyclists and carefully kept classic cars on weekend runs, both of which add slower-moving traffic to already narrow lanes and increase the chance of a breakdown being hit from behind if it is not made visible quickly.
Surrey Towns We Cover
Surrey is commuter country threaded by the M25, the A3 and the Gatwick approaches, so a breakdown is rarely just one road problem. K9 sends a vetted driver from our nationwide network who is already near you, not from a depot in any of these towns. These four generate most of our Surrey calls, and each has its own awkward corners.
Epsom
Epsom is a junction town first and a racecourse second. The M25 near junctions 8 and 9 and the A24 meet close by, the A240 carries commuters towards Sutton, and the A2022 runs through the older, narrower streets of Ewell where one stranded car holds up traffic quickly. On race days the roads around Epsom Downs fill with temporary layouts, so a driver plans a meeting point rather than pushing through the crowd, and bikes are recovered without scuffing fairings. Quiet corners such as Stamford Green and Horton bring simpler jobs of getting a car to the kerb and loaded, while calls near Epsom Hospital carry real time pressure.
Guildford
Guildford hangs on two features, the one-way gyratory round the centre and the cobbled High Street dropping towards the river. A stalled car on the loop cannot be reversed clear, so a driver brings it forward to the next safe point, and on the hill the first job is making the vehicle safe, with wheel chocks less reliable on the cobbles. The A3 bypass and the exposed A31 Hogs Back demand quick positioning. In term time flat batteries around the University of Surrey are the typical fault, Slyfield estate produces van calls, and 4x4s come off gravel tracks near the A25, A320 and A281.
Redhill
Redhill splits into fast roads and a tight centre. The M25 near junction 8 and the A23 carry airport and commuter traffic past the town, so a motorway fault gets a flatbed and a priority on clearing live lanes, while tailbacks build quickly on the A23 through Merstham. In the centre the one-way system wraps the railway station and shopping streets with little room for a stranded car. Heading for Reigate, the A25 climbs Reigate Hill, where a vehicle is secured before loading. South through Salfords towards Horley, travellers on a tight schedule are common, as are flat batteries in long-stay car parks and at East Surrey Hospital, often fixed with a jump start.
Woking
Woking centre runs on a one-way loop around Victoria Way, so a failed car has nowhere to wait and a driver plans which arm of the loop reaches it fastest. The A320, A324 and A247 feed the loop and pinch in places, the M25 at junction 11 and the A3 approaches bring the longer-distance faults, and Sheerwater estate mostly means family cars, small trade vans and motorcycles after wet-road spills. Around Horsell and the McLaren Technology Centre, prestige and electric vehicles travel on a flatbed only. Beyond Horsell Common the lanes narrow, with sand and standing water after rain. Ring 07301 118118, describe the vehicle, and tell us which stretch of Victoria Way you are on.
Surrey sits between several of our other areas, including Sussex to the south, Hampshire to the west and London to the north-east.

Frequently Asked: Surrey Vehicle Recovery
The police have had my car removed in Surrey. Can K9 collect it?
Yes. If Surrey Police have had your vehicle taken to a contracted pound after a collision, a breakdown in a live lane or a roadside seizure, K9 can collect it once the pound has released it to you. Send us the release paperwork and where you want it taken, whether that is home, a garage or a bodyshop, and we dispatch the nearest driver with a flatbed. Pounds charge daily storage, so the sooner it is collected the less you pay them. There is no membership to join and your price is confirmed on WhatsApp before anyone sets off.
Can you recover a motorcycle from Box Hill?
Yes, we regularly recover motorcycles from the Box Hill and Surrey Hills roads, where sharp bends catch riders out. Bikes are secured and transported on a flatbed, not towed.
What if I break down near Gatwick on the M23 in Surrey?
Stay in the vehicle with hazards on if you cannot safely get out, and tell us your direction of travel and the nearest junction. We dispatch the closest available driver to that stretch.
Do you recover vehicles from race days at Epsom?
Yes, race-day traffic around Epsom Downs creates its own breakdown pattern, and we plan for the extra volume by keeping drivers available in the area on major race dates.
