Why Eastern Way needs a quick heavy response
The A2016 is a dual carriageway with barriers, limited refuges and long gaps between junctions. A lorry that fails between Plumstead and the Belvedere junction at Picardy Manorway sits in a live lane with traffic passing at speed, and the only way past for anyone else is a diversion through Abbey Wood. A tipper has broken down on Eastern Way between Plumstead and Belvedere with no hard shoulder. What should the driver do?
Switch on the hazards, leave the cab on the side away from traffic if that is safe and get behind the barrier, then call us with the direction of travel and the nearest junction. We approach from the correct carriageway and shield the scene on arrival.
Can you recover a refuse collection vehicle that has lost hydraulics on Yarnton Way?
