Brixton Vehicle Recovery Where the Red Route Says No Stopping
Brixton Road is a red route from the Oval all the way up Brixton Hill to Streatham, and the double red lines mean what they say: no stopping, cameras on, and a bus lane that runs most of the day. A broken-down car on that stretch is a penalty waiting to happen and a recovery truck cannot simply park beside it and take its time. This page is about how we work around that, because it is the single biggest difference between recovering in Brixton and recovering almost anywhere else in south London.
K9 Recovery is a 24/7, 365-day company with its largest number of drivers and heaviest trucks in London. You do not need a membership, you will not sit in a call-centre queue, and the price is fixed before the truck rolls. Call 07301 118118.

Where a truck can and cannot stop in Brixton
- Brixton Road outside the station and the market: cannot. We use Atlantic Road, Electric Lane or a side turning off Coldharbour Lane and either roll the car round or winch from the corner.
- Brixton Hill above Jebb Avenue: can, briefly, in the marked bays on the uphill side where they are empty. Otherwise we use the side streets off the Hill.
- Coldharbour Lane towards Loughborough Junction: tight under the railway bridges but no red route. We load on the Loughborough Road side where there is room.
- Stockwell gyratory: cannot on the loop. We meet you on Stockwell Road or Lansdowne Way and work from there.
- Herne Hill junction: can, on Half Moon Lane or Railton Road outside the LTN filters. Not on Norwood Road at the junction itself.
- Acre Lane and Effra Road: can, in the loading bays outside the shops between deliveries.
Live-lane work on the A23
When the car genuinely cannot be moved off the red route, we treat it as a live-lane recovery. The truck comes in behind you in your direction of travel with the beacons on, the driver positions it to shield the lane, and the lift is done in minutes rather than the quarter of an hour a leisurely load would take. Tell us your direction and the nearest side street; that is what lets us plan the approach.
Black cabs and private hire
Brixton has a large working taxi population, and a cab off the road is income lost by the hour. Our London taxi recovery service prioritises getting the vehicle to your usual garage and you back on the rank. Electric cabs and private-hire EVs are carried on a flatbed only, never towed on their driven wheels.
The full range, not just cars
Cars, vans, 4x4s, motorcycles, prestige and classic vehicles, caravans, motorhomes and non-runners. The Brixton Academy and the Ritzy bring evening crowds and the odd car left with its lights on; a jump or a full recovery, whichever it needs. Vehicles above van weight, up to around 30 tonnes, go to the London heavy team.
Onward to anywhere
If the car needs to go to a garage in Croydon, a bodyshop in Surrey or a specialist in another part of the country, the booking covers the whole trip. 3,000 vetted drivers nationwide make that a single call, and every mile is fully insured.
Why the reviews say what they say
We are rated 4.9/5 from more than 200 Google reviews, and the Brixton ones tend to mention that the truck turned up before the traffic warden did. Brixton sits inside our London vehicle recovery patch, which is why the response here is quicker than anywhere outside the capital.

Brixton recovery questions
My car has stopped on Brixton Road by the tube station on double red lines. Am I going to get a penalty?
A broken-down vehicle is not exempt from red route enforcement, so the sooner it moves the better. Ring us straight away, put the hazards on, and if it rolls at all push it round the corner into Atlantic Road or Electric Lane. We will be loading from there rather than from the main road.
I have broken down on Brixton Hill going up towards Streatham. Which way will the truck come?
Up the Hill behind you, in your direction, so the truck can sit on your tail and shield the lane. If you are near a side street such as Elm Park or New Park Road we may load from there instead; the driver decides on arrival.
There is a gig at the Academy and Stockwell Road is solid. Do you still come out?
Yes. The driver approaches from the Stockwell end rather than from Brixton Road and uses the side streets to reach you. It may take a few more minutes than a quiet night, and we will say so rather than pretend otherwise.
Just beyond Brixton
The Brixton drivers also cover Clapham along Acre Lane, Streatham at the top of the Hill and Peckham via Coldharbour Lane. Find all our covered areas in one place.
