Caravans and trailers have their own challenges — weight over the axle, no engine of their own, and a hitch that has to be right. Whether yours has broken down mid-tow or simply needs moving, here’s how it works.
Caravan or trailer breakdown
The classic one is a tyre blowout on the motorway — caravan tyres age and fail even with plenty of tread. A damaged A-frame, a seized wheel bearing or a snapped coupling all leave you stranded too. Getting it recovered safely off a live carriageway is the priority.
Transporting a caravan or trailer
Beyond breakdowns, plenty of moves are planned: buying or selling, relocating, or moving one to and from storage. A flatbed carries it cleanly without wear on its own tyres and bearings.
What we need to know
- Rough size and weight (single or twin axle).
- Whether it rolls freely and the tyres hold air.
- The hitch type and whether the handbrake works.
