How to Prepare Your Car for Transport: A Checklist

A few minutes of prep makes collection quicker, smoother and safer — and helps your car arrive exactly as it left. Here’s a simple checklist.

Before collection day

  • Remove personal belongings and valuables — anything loose can move in transit.
  • Note existing damage — a few quick photos all round protect both sides.
  • Leave a little fuel — around a quarter tank is plenty; a full tank just adds weight.
  • Fold the mirrors and retract the aerial where you can.
  • Turn off (or tell us about) alarms, trackers and toll tags.
  • Note any quirks — a tricky immobiliser, low ground clearance, a knack to starting it.
  • Have the keys ready — all of them.

If it’s a non-runner

Tell us up front whether it starts, rolls and steers — that way the right kit turns up first time. (More on non-runner transport.)

On the day and at delivery

Be reachable at both ends for access and handover, and give the car a quick check when it arrives, comparing against your photos. That’s it — a smooth move from start to finish.
