Recovery Truck vs Tow Truck: What Is the Difference?

People use “recovery truck” and “tow truck” to mean the same thing, but there is a real difference in how your vehicle is moved — and it matters for safety, especially with modern and automatic cars.

Flatbed (tilt-and-slide) recovery

Wheel-lift and spec towing

A wheel-lift or “spec” lift raises one axle while the other two wheels stay on the road. It is quick and useful in tight spots, but it is not right for every vehicle — towing on its driven wheels can damage a car.

Which does your vehicle need?
